Our DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM (DEP) offers many different education sessions. Whether you have pre-diabetes, are newly diagnosed with diabetes or even if you’ve been living with diabetes for years, we have an education program that will fit your needs. Our focus is on showing you how to live well with diabetes. All programs are free of charge. Here is what we offer:
- For newly diagnosed people or for people who need a refresher course we offer our core program ‘Living with Diabetes’ which explains diabetes and how to manage it. This program is offered either as a two day ‘daytime’ session or as a three night ‘evening’ session.
- For past participants of our programs, we offer the ‘Exercise and Diabetes’ session to help you become more active in order to get better blood glucose control.
- For those of you with pre-diabetes or metabolic syndrome we offer an ‘Early Intervention/Prevention’ session that looks at lifestyle changes needed to prevent or delay diabetes.
- If you are starting on insulin or if you already take insulin and have questions or concerns, we offer an ‘Insulin Initiation/Review’ session.
- Our ‘Seniors Outreach’ session travels to four local senior centres and offers health education and access to a diabetes health professional at the centres.
- For past participants and the community at large, we also continue to offer the ‘Community Information Sessions’ once a month in the evening from September to April.
- Our class ‘Lifestyle Treatments for High Blood Pressure’ is open to past participants of our programs and offers up-to-date information on lifestyle changes to treat high blood pressure.
